Kaaba – Islam’s most sacred shrine at the centre of the Sacred Mosque, al-Masjid al-Haram in Arabic, in Makkah. It is a cubic structure, adorned with gold-embroidered black fabric, and referred to by Muslims as the ‘House of God.’ It marks the direction (qibla) that Muslims pray towards five times a day and is central to the Hajj pilgrimage.
