Eid al-Adha – Eid al-Adha is a Muslim holiday which marks the climax of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah. It occurs on the 10th day of the Islamic lunar month of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th and final month of the Islamic calendar of the year. It commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham to Christians and Jews) to symbolically sacrifice his son. During the holiday, which in most places lasts four days, Muslims slaughter sheep or cattle, distribute part of the meat to the poor and eat the rest.
